R. Linda:
So, what is new up here? Oh, just a little run-in with the law by a woman a few towns over. Yeah, New Hampshire gets its share of excitement every so often and when we do, it's always a doozie! So let me tell it to you like it happened.
In our biggest city (which is not our capital), Manch Vegas, aka Manchester, the local police took on a woman with a BB gun who barricaded her bad self in her home with her kids AND the babysitter! Yes, she did. Now, to know why she did the barricading, we need to go back a bit to earlier in the evening when this very same woman (and I hate to say she be an Irish American), one Melissa Murray, age 35, just happened to threaten another woman with a BB gun.
This all happened on Manch Vegas's trendy west side, yes, Cartier Street. But it started on Dubuque Street first and then moved to the more . . . uh . . . well, west side story kind of street, Cartier.
Seems 28-year-old Natasha Oxley, who lived not far on Dubuque Street, accused Ms. Murray of pointing and threatening her with the BB handgun after Ms. Murray came looking for the woman's brother, Robert Oxley, 29, concerning a dispute with her (Ms. Murray's) son, Tyler. Yes, this is the way it is up here. You are polite enough to ask after someone, and if the other person has the brass to not tell you where or how that other person is, well . . . you might get a BB gun waved in your face. But it was more like this: Natasha opened her door, and Murray stood there pointing the gun at her, demanding to know where Roberto was. But at the time, Natasha did not know it was a BB gun. She thought it was a real handgun. Horrors!
These two women knew each other; they did, but there was no time for pleasantries here. No, Ms. Murray was on a quest to settle a score, it seems, for her dear sonny boy. Natasha, having had the rude waving of a gun shoved under her nose, quickly shut the door and did what any law-abiding citizen would do; she called the local Manch Vegas police.
The police showed up in front of Ms. Murray's abode and saw her standing on the porch, but she saw them first. Yes, she did, and she knew what they wanted, so she went inside and barricaded the door. It was a WTF moment for the cops, who stood there amazed at Ms. Murray's evasive action. But another helpful neighbour did inform the officers that Ms. Murray wasn't home alone. No, her kiddos were inside, and so was the babysitter, Heidi Harrington (another Irish American), aged 17.
Well, the officers tried to get Ms. Murray to come on out, but she wasn't having any of that. So they did what police officers usually do in these situations, they surrounded the house. This display of force was to frighten Ms. Murray into coming out or, as they said, officially "coax" Ms. Murray out. But then something bizarre happened. Ms. Harrington, the babysitter, yelled out the window to the officers they weren't coming out. Neither was the Murray kiddos and just to be sure the officers got it right the first time, Ms. Murray threw open the sash and told the same damn thing to the stunned officers of the law. Yes, she did.
The officers decided to try to appeal to Ms. Murray's power of reasoning, that is, assuming she had any. So they negotiated for the kiddo's release, which took 20 minutes. Well, Ms. Murray was never one with any patience; the officers ensured she knew they weren't leaving no matter how long it took, so she decided to do the right thing and get the kiddos out so she could have a moment of quiet to think. But upon opening the door to shove the children out, an officer, one Joe Ryan (yes, another Irish American), jumped Ms. Murray (who was on her mobile phone and not paying attention), pulled her out the door and wrestled, yes R. Linda, he wrestled that amazon to the ground.
The Murray children were taken from the apartment with no problem, and that left the all-or-nothing babysitter, Ms. Harrington, who was taken into police custody and charged. Yes, R. Linda, her smarty arse was CHARGED with obstructing government administration! That's a biggie it is up here . . . sort of.
The BB gun was recovered. Yes, it is believed to be the one used to threaten Natasha. Ms. Murray was charged with criminal threatening, criminal mischief, and resisting detention AND, the best, for breaking windows at the Dubuque Street address! I tell ya! But that wasn't all; she was charged with hindering apprehension related to a prior incident where she hid her son (the one she was going to settle the score for) from officers looking to arrest his arse on warrants. Tyler Murray, all of 18, was arraigned on several charges, including fraudulent use of a stolen credit card. The bad boy, that!
It is also cited that he violated a domestic violence petition prohibiting his arse from having contact with HIS MOTHER, Ms. Murray (who had gotten a restraining order on his arse), when he took to hiding in her abode. Well, it was a family two-for. The officers arrested Tyler, who was hiding inside Murray's abode! I dunno what Manch Vegas is coming to. I tell ya!
Here is the lovely Melissa Murray's mug shot.
Not to be outdone, here's Tyler!
Starting with Melissa Murray she's set for arraignment for the charges mentioned above, and to add insult to injury, the prosecutor asked for $4000 cash/surety bail for Ms. Murray. She pleaded with the judge she was not a "flight risk", BUT the judge said bail was to protect the public, so he set it at $4000 and barred Ms. Murray from any contact with Natasha Oxley. Oh, and Ms. Oxley's windows as well. You think?
As for her partner in crime, Heidi Harrington, alleged junior criminal, she too had bail set. Her father did tell the court that his Heidi is a "good kid", and he didn't quite understand how she could be charged for not opening a door at someone else's residence. Well, Daddy, she did open a window and shout at the minions of the law. DUH.
And the man behind all this, Tyler Murray, had his bail set at $6000 and a trial set for next year.
This ends the excitement for 2012. I know, be still your heart; this is just too much for one story, but there it is.

Yes, it does look like she squeezed off a few dozen BB rounds into her own face, but actually, when Officer Ryan got her down, she hit the ground face first, and this resulted in a bloody nose and some scratches |
