I Dared Wish Them A Merry Christmas

R. Linda:

This morning, I was full of Christmas cheer I was. I went to me local Dunkin' Donuts and as I pulled up, the voice on the speaker said, "Welcome to Dunkin' Donuts, how may I help you?"

"Merry Christmas," says I, "how are you this snowy morning?"

And there is silence and the voice comes back, "Uh, thank you?" with a question to me Merry Christmas. "Uh . . .  I am fine thanks, sooo . . . how can I help you?"

I gave me order and the voice came back, "That'll be nine twenty five, pull up to the window please,"

"I will do, Merry Christmas!" says I and I drive around the building and pull up to where I see several Santa hatted heads looking to see who would dare wish them a Merry Christmas. The window slides back, and I say (just so not to disappoint it was I who wished such), "Merry Christmas!"

The girl looks from me to her associates like, Who is this guy wishing us a Merry Christmas, doesn't he know that is politically incorrect, like totally? And she says to me, "Uh . . . yee-ah, that'll be nine twenty-five please."

I hand her the Dunk's reward card and she does her thing and hands it back, I notice she slides that window shut before I can thank her for relieving me of my money and wishing her and her buds another Merry Christmas. I noticed instead of handing me the cups of coffee like they usually do, one at a time, she is lining them all up so she can hand them off all at once, including the gingerbread boy cookies. All set she slides that window open reluctantly and then with super speed just about throws the bag of cookies at me followed by four coffees and then an afterthought, did I want a tray?

"No, no tray thanks," and just as she started to slide that window shut with a quick move of her hand, I put the car in gear and shouted out to them as they all craned their necks to see me drive off, "MERRY CHRISTMAS!"

It is a shame one can't wish another a happy holiday no matter what that holiday is. I be thinking of stopping at Starbucks and wishing them all not only a Merry Christmas but a happy Hanukkah and a fantastic Kwanzaa.
