R. Linda:

Tonya be in charge of selecting an artist who specialises in painting buildings, to commission said artist to paint a commemorative canvas of the newly restored library. In all the art openings Tonya has hosted, there was but one artist who paints homes. And her paintings have won first place. Naturally, me Tonya thinks that's the artist to commission.

Thursday night last, I was sitting in the kitchen enjoying homemade scones sent from me Mam back home. How they even arrived in this country I don't know, but I didn't stop to question that either. Tonya came in with her library friend Addie and they joined me. I didn't mind, there was plenty to go round, but I became the subject of conversation, something I did mind.

Tonya tells Addie about the snake episode (see Me interesting day -- no strike that -- me stressed filled day 30/01/10) and me face must have been red to me ears on that one. Oh haha haha, I laugh as if I thought it was funny too, but I did not think that. Then onto driving all over Kingdom Come in search of our Chinese take-out order (see In search of the Golden Something or Other 31/01/10). Oh haha haha. The woman, can't let me look like I have any smarts at all as if I be this half-wit curiosity she's married for the fun of it. Gees.

Anyway, after the ridicule stopped, Tonya turns to Addie and says she thinks Dawn Alison is the artist to paint the library commemorative. Addie stops in mid-chew, her face a scowl and repeats the name like she can't believe it came out of Tonya's mouth. To make a long conversation short, it seems this Dawn person has a reputation for being near to crazy as one can get. Exactly what the craziness is, Addie can't seem to put into words, but she does agree Dawn is a superb artist, and if Tonya wants to deal with her, then she should go for it.

Meanwhile, I be munching away half listening. There is no phone number for this Dawn, but Addie has her card and there is an email address. Well, right after Addie left, Tonya got on the computer and wrote a letter off to Ms. Alison and gushingly told her how wonderful her work was and whether would she consider painting the honourary library portrait?

All good and fine you say? I'd have thought that too. UNTIL Friday morning Tonya sees she has mail from Dawn Alison. Oh, goody. She opens the mail and there is this two-page letter informing Tonya that Dawn's mother has passed away and the father is in Weymouth, Massachusetts at a hospice for Alzheimer patients and how Dawn has to go there to comfort him and yes, she'd love to do the painting, but must go to the father's side.

Too much information, I mean there was more and it was like reading the man's medical records it was that bizarre. Tonya emailed her back with her condolences, and good wishes for the father, and told Dawn to take her time, when she returns they can talk about the painting. Two hours later, another email from Dawn that she was going on holiday in upstate Vermont and when she gets back she'd like to meet with Tonya and set up a time and day they can go over and take a photo of the library that will give the library committee the right angle for the painting.

Tonya is now confused, tells me all this and I read the emails and I see it isn't Tonya's interpretation or misrepresenting herself it be Dawn. I said just let it go, when the woman returns from either the hospice or holiday, I be sure she'll be in touch.

Well, that was Friday, this morning Tonya got another email from Dawn. She's back from Holiday in Virginia (we did go look at the prior email, and yes, yes it said Vermont), and her mother has passed away and her father needs her. So she is going to see him in Woburn (I don't know what happened to Weymouth) and she'll meet Tonya at the library on Wednesday. OK

I said good luck on this one Tonya. So happy I will be off at work. But then what Wednesday does Dawn mean? I have not a clue and poor Tonya is totally confused.
